Artable have partnered with SENIOR ART SUPPLIES to deliver a range of workshops in Melbourne.
Artable is Australian owned and operated by artists for artists. We specialise in connecting the best Australian artists with those who want to paint, have fun & learn with them.
It's your turn to see what all the fuss is about - Don't miss out!
Join Jody for a two-day expressive drawing workshop designed to spark your creativity and expand your approach to drawing and mark-making!
On Day 1, we’ll begin with a series of innovative exercises that introduce fresh perspectives on line, form, and rhythm. You’ll explore continuous line and tonal drawing, be introduced to various mark-making techniques, and learn how to create interesting compositions with atmosphere, movement, and energy. As the day progresses, you'll apply these techniques to larger-scale drawings, focusing on blending abstraction and realism in bold and engaging ways.
On Day 2, we will draw with ink using unconventional tools. You’ll discover new experimental mark-making methods that combine spontaneity with intention, helping you create more expressive drawings. We’ll also explore a wide range of tools and techniques to expand your creative toolkit, encouraging you to produce sensitive, captivating drawings that challenge traditional approaches.
Throughout both days, you’ll enjoy a joyful and open environment where every artist is encouraged to tap into their unique creative voice. This workshop promises to be an inspiring, innovative, and transformative experience.
About the Artist;
From my earliest days visiting scrap metal yards at my father’s factory in western Sydney – I have been inspired by the action of machinery and the big draftsman’s tables where they drew designs for machinery by hand. I loved the smell, noise and chaos of lines and shape in the piles of scape metal and the innovative design of new machines.
My arts practice encompasses drawing, mixed media, sculpture, performance, and installation. Materiality and Mark Making are at the core of my work. I relentlessly explore new materials and investigate contemporary drawing techniques. To do this I build on and then move beyond conventional drawing processes in search of new methods and tools that connect drawing with the fundamental need to make symbolic marks.
I have had sixteen solo exhibitions and exhibit frequently in important group exhibitions. I won the Adelaide Drawing Prize in 2022, the Open Greenway Art Prize in 2017 (and local prize again in 2020) and have been a finalist in many major art prizes, including the 66th Blake Prize, Sculptures at Scenic World and at the Muswellbrook, Paddington, and NSW Parliament’s Plein Air painting prizes.
My work has been selected twice for the Kedumba Drawing Award Collection, and for the Jacaranda and Swan Hill Drawing Awards; and I have been a finalist in the Dobell, Rick Amor, and Tim Olsen drawing prizes.
My work is held in the Kedumba Collection of Australian Drawings, the Perry Drawing Collection and in Waverley and Blacktown City Council collections, at the Western Sydney Institute, in the Nepean Arts and Design Centre, and in private collections nationally and in the UK, USA, Dubai and New Zealand.
I am represented by Nanda/Hobbs and Lost Bear Gallery.
